1988 Toyota 4x4, regular cab W 56 trans. This is project conversion number 1. conversion engine is a 2001 VW ALH. Hunted down an automatic car to get the 11mm pump so future performance upgrades would be a little easier.
The basis of the conversion is the bell housing-to-engine adapter and crank adapter. We went with a crank adapter so that we could retain the OEM Toyota flywheel and clutch and starter package to make maintenance an off-the-shelf activity.
Frame prep for motor mounts. If you choose not to build or modify the VW oil pan, it will require a lift to move the front differential down for clearance. The only kit we found that will do that is the 4.5 inch kit from Rough Country.
While the engine is out, there are a couple other clearance issues to take care of. to clear the AC bracket on the VW (if you are retaining the ac) you must cut the corner off off the driver side frame mount perch.
While you are there, one hole must also be drilled.
You'll use the DCS frame side motor mount as the template.
